West Kids
The Children’s Ministry of West Albemarle Baptist Church exists to teach children to KNOW our Lord and Savior, GROW in spiritual development, GO serve the Lord. The three key aspects of our Children’s Ministry are achieved through the five purposes of the church: worship, service, evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship.
Know
Children will have the opportunity to come to know the Lord through children’s worship and discipleship activities.
Grow
Children will grow in spiritual development through worship, discipleship, and fellowship.
Go
Children will have opportunities to go serve the Lord through service and evangelism.

What We Offer:
Contained Classroom – transitions and large groups can be challenging for some kids so the Special Agents stay in one classroom the entire time.
Alternative Check-in Process – Special Agents “check-in” in their classroom, rather than at the main entrance. This reduces the anxiety and overstimulation that can occur in congested/crowded areas.
Sensory Sensitive Environment – From weighted blankets, noise cancelling headphones, multiple calm down areas, fidget toys, alternative seating, manipulative type toys, open floor space, and so much more – it’s inviting to all children!
Alternative Learning Methods – We understand that many kids learn better through, visual, hands-on and tactile experiences. We incorporate this into our weekly lessons through games and arts/craft time.
Accommodate Individual Needs – We can accommodate most concerns from seizures, alternative communication, adaptive equipment, mobility support needs, specialized diets, and sensory needs.
Wednesday Night Awana Class - Individualized Awana Book Work – we provide unique and individualized ways for kids to learn their Bible verses from Picture Sequencing Cards, Sign Language, tactile learning experiences and many more. This allows kids with any skill level to complete the book work and earn badges for their vests. All kids can learn about Jesus and all kids deserve to feel accomplished!

Please be advised that we take your children’s safety very seriously.
- All of our childcare workers are CPR trained if such an incident arises.
- All of our childcare workers have undergone an extensive background screening before being able to interact with your children.
- Doors to our Children’s Building remained locked at all times unless it is a pick up or drop off time.
- There is a doorbell located beside the door if you wish to enter the building between those times.
- During drop off times, we use a system called KidCheck. KidCheck allows parents to electronically check in and check out your child. Your child will be given a sticker to wear, and you, the parent, will receive a receipt to present upon pick up.
- Childcare beepers will be given upon request should your child need you during the worship time.
So don’t worry! We have been doing childcare for over 100 years at West. If you trust us to lead you in worship, trust that your children will be taken care of.
At West, we place a major emphasis on our Outreach programs. Our goal is to live intentionally with the Gospel and to always be ready to give an answer for the hope that we have in Christ.

Awana helps churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Our programs offer a proven approach for evangelizing and discipling kids in the church and community.
As a ministry leader for overly 60 years, Awana is making an impact. A recent national survey found Awana to be as important to our alumni’s spiritual foundation as all other church activities combined. Among alumni who participated in our programs for at least six years, 92.7 percent still attend church at least weekly as adults!
Each week, more than one million kids ages 2 to 18 participate in Awana. Over 12,000 churches in the U.S. and 7,600 internationally run Awana programs that change young lives through biblical truth.
